A man has been shot and killed in the street after police shot and wounded him while trying to arrest him for an alleged domestic violence offence, Scotland Yard said.
The 28-year-old was shot in the neck in the area of Pimlico Road and High Street at around 5pm on Saturday.
Officers were called to the area after receiving reports of a man with a gun, and after officers found a man suffering from injuries to his neck.
The man was taken to an east London hospital where he died.
He was identified as 29-year -old James D. Taylor, of Pimsbury Road in north London, a close friend of the victim, said.
He said: “He’s just a really lovely guy and very quiet, he didn’t have a lot of friends.”
The Met Police said officers had been called to a house in the Pimrico Road area, near High Street, after receiving a report of a person with a firearm.
Officers arrived and found Taylor on the floor with a gunshot wound to the neck, the force said.
“Officers from the scene received a report that a man had been shot on Pimicola Road, High Street.
Officers attended and found the man with gunshot wounds to his back and neck,” a statement said.
Police said there had been a “sustained exchange of gunfire”.”
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and to assist police with inquiries into the incident.”
