FMC is planning to close its European headquarters and close its retail arm in Ireland.
The Irish government has asked FMC to reconsider its decision to relocate its headquarters to Ireland, which is the third-largest EU economy after Germany and France.FMC said it would also have to consider its operations in the United Kingdom and other European countries.
It has not yet said whether it will remain in Ireland or seek to relocate elsewhere.
Fitzgerald told the Financial Times that he expected FMC would be able to open its Irish operations in 2018, but the company would have to make sure that the new operations were “in line with its current operating arrangements”.
He added that the company was considering its options for an Irish HQ.
